Paradises off the beaten tracks: Rubondo Island

Some people love hidden treasures and almost unknown paradises more than mainstream destinations. They go for them, they want to arrive to places that most of tourists will never reach.

If you are waiting to be in Kidagaa Beach where our lodge is located or if you have already been here and you enjoyed the quiet, the crowdless atmosphere and the nature all around, probably you are one of those “explorers of lost paradises”.

We are as well, and we want to show you something amazing that you can find here in Tanzania: Rubondo Island National Park, the largest island park of the Country.

Let’s fly far away, to the city of Mwanza, along the shores of the Lake Victoria. From here, let’s continue by boat up to a remote side, closed to the border of Rwanda and Uganda.

An endless green forest will amaze you sight. But even more surprising will be the exploration.

This peaceful and lonely corner of the World is home for many animal species, that here is possible to see on a very short distance: elephant and giraffe, antelope, crocodile and hippo… but most of all, wild chimpanzees which were introduced in the 60s.

Air and water around Rubondo are populated as well by over 200 bird species and fishes such as tilapia and the rapacious Nile perch. Aside, funny yellow-spotted otters hunting nearby the water.

An overnight at the Rubondo Island Camp will be the cherry on top. Have a look at the video!

Rubondo Island can be visited after the northern circuit parks, and you should also think of visiting the Chimpanzee havens of Gombe Streams or Mahale Mountains National Parks. Contact our partner safari company Paka Adventures for more info.
